1.
A Zenith Claim Representative or Field Adjuster will be assigned, depending on the claim severity, to handle the claim. They will contact you to obtain full particulars of the loss.
2.
When your loss includes damage to your home, you must obtain an estimate from a contractor.
-
Your adjuster can provide you with the names of three reputable contractors in your area. You simply choose one of them. Once the adjuster has reviewed the contractor's proposal, you will be contacted to arrange a date for the repairs.
-
You may also elect to participate in our Direct Repair Program, if there is one in your area. Under this program, a contractor will arrange to inspect any damages and, with your authorization, can begin repairs immediately or at your earliest convenience.
-
If the damage is severe, you may arrange emergency temporary repairs to protect your property.
What if I want to use my own contractor?
-
If you prefer a repairer of your choice, you may be asked to obtain two competitive estimates. If the first estimate is over $1,000, your adjuster will ask you to make an appointment to have the damage appraised by our appraiser. Please give us 24 hours notice.
3.
Your adjuster will investigate the claim circumstances, evaluate your loss and
discuss settlement with you.
The length of time it takes to conclude a claim may differ depending on the claim circumstances and severity.
Will I be compensated for the full amount of the repairs?
Compensation may vary in accordance with the degree of fault and the coverage applicable. Your recovered damages depend on several factors including:
-
whether you were completely at fault or partially at fault for the loss
-
whether you carry any optional insurance coverage for your home or property
-
Usually the insurance company makes payments to both you and the contractor making the repairs. So you should not have to pay for repairs in advance.
