Life insurance

Life insurance benefits are paid to the beneficiary in the event of the policyholder’s death.
Accident insurance

AD&D benefits are paid to the beneficiary in the event of the policyholder’s death, but only as the result of an accident. If the insured suffered an accident and their life is saved at the cost of a limb or another important body part such as an eye, then AD&D insurance would pay the policyholder certain benefits for the disabling accident.
